Explanation of Legal Fees and Terms
Fees are the hourly rates we charge (excluding disbursements) for the work we do for each Client by rendering the professional services of each Attorney of this Firm. These fees as well as our full terms and conditions are set out in the Mandate and Fee Agreement which the Client signs at first consult. They describe what we require for the professional execution of our optimum legal skills in order to fulfill the Client’s instruction and be effective in the advancement of our Client’s best legal interests pursuant to the Client’s requirements.
Disbursements are basically funds which the Firm must pay to Service Providers on your behalf. They include, but are not limited to, Advocate’s (counsel’s) fees, witness’s fees (including the charges of expert witnesses), sheriff’s charges, courier charges, photocopying and faxing charge, e-mails, revenue stamps, travel expenses.
The hourly rate refers to whichever of the Firm’s Attorneys will be attending you and handling your matter. That Attorney will be your Attending Attorney throughout your matter and performs the services in accordance your instructions and requirements. The fees reflected in the Mandate and Fee Agreement escalate annually on the 1st day of each January as reflected more fully in clause 3 thereof.
Statements of account are rendered on a regular monthly basis containing reference to fees (where raised during the month in question), disbursements, and interest (if applicable) and credits/payments to which you are entitled.
Normal Office Hours - are 08h00 through to 16h30, Monday to Friday (without interruption); all work done by us reasonably outside normal hours is still charged at our normal standard rate and is not levied at an increased tariff, save for work done on Sundays, Public Holidays and urgent matters, which will be charged at 2 x our standard tariff rate.
Special Set Fees
Occasionally we do charge set fees for certain matters, i.e. ANCs or Unopposed Divorces or Wills or whatever we see fit to treat in this manner from time to time. Such arrangements will be made specifically with our Clients accordingly.
